You can use a FIDO2 certified USB security key when logging into your online account.
1. What is a FIDO2 certified USB security key?
A FIDO2 certified USB security key is a physical device that plugs into your computer’s USB port and functions as an extra layer of security. This device contains a private key which allows the user to easily login across multiple online services (where available).
2. What are the benefits of using a FIDO2 certified USB security key?
FIDO2 certified USB security keys are an optional alternative to one-time security codes at log in. As a result, a FIDO2 certified USB security key is highly resistant to phishing attacks, password theft and other common cyber threats. The keys can also be leveraged if you do not have access to a U.S. mobile phone number or cannot receive texts to your phone.
3. Where can I get a FIDO2 certified USB security key?
FIDO2 certified USB security keys can be purchased at many online and trusted tech retailers. Just search for 'USB security key' and make sure the key you choose is FIDO2 certified.
4. How do I register my FIDO2 certified USB security key?
It's easy and just takes a minute or two. Log into your account and click the new Enhanced Security tab in the Security Center to get started.
5. How do I use my FIDO2 certified USB security key when logging in?
When prompted for your FIDO2 certified USB security key, all you need to do is tap the button on the key already inserted into your USB port, allow the browser to read your device and continue logging in. You must make sure you are using a supported browser such as Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox. Internet Explorer does not support USB security keys at this time.
6. What if I need to make changes to my FIDO2 certified USB security key?
Within the new Enhanced Security tab, you can rename or remove existing FIDO2 certified USB security keys. You also have the option to add up to two FIDO2 certified USB security keys.
